Why Early Spring is the Perfect Time for Michigan Homeowners and Roofs

Michigan is known for its long, cold winters. Spring is often short, with summer being only slightly longer and fall short-lived. Homeowners here have to go outside after every blizzard and use special roof shovels to pull down literal tons of snow every winter. Damage from snow, ice, and the shovels used to remove heavy piles of snow from the roof requires repair. Spring is the right time to do roof repairs.

Why Early Spring for Repairs?

Most of the snow and ice has melted from your Michigan roof. Any damage from this past winter is readily seen. Roofing contractors can get up there, look around, document new damage, and let you know what it will cost to repair it. Early spring is also ideal because summer roofing projects are often backed up to fall or next year, depending on Michigan’s rapidly changing seasons.

Summer Brings Heavy Storms of Its Own

Summer in Michigan is usually very warm and muggy. It brings its own heavy rainstorms, often equipped with hail. If you wait too long to make winter repairs, it’s hard to tell winter damage apart from the hail and wind damage of summer. You may think that waiting until the summer storms are done would be better, but that puts off the repairs until it’s too late in the year.

Get Ahead of the Heavy Demand on Roofers

Get ahead of the heavy demand on roofers’ time by arranging your roof repairs in early spring. Sometimes it costs less to make repairs this soon after winter because roofers don’t quite have a lot of work lined up yet. A roofer can finish the job quicker and not be quite as distracted by other roofing projects in your area.

At the very least, have your roof checked for winter damage. It helps to know if there is any damage to worry about. If you have a contractor check your roof and there’s nothing major, at least you know that it’s not something you have to fix right away.
